Black Images in a White World and Who Are You Really? - 1. In this project, I compare images of slaves and examples of scientific racism, like the story of the Hottentot Venus, to contemporary images by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. How have black people been used as objects for art and science? How does that reinforce the racial hierarchy of white people being the makers and thinkers while black people are reserved to being primitive beings to be looked at? Has that relationship changed in 200 years, in and outside of the museum space? / 2. A zine based on my film Who Are You Really? About a socially anxious college student reluctantly heads to a party attempting to make new friends.

Through my illustration work, I journeyed into the world of zine-making. I set up the company Coin-Operated Press, in 2020, with my business-partner Katie Mayes, where we host workshops, run zine fairs, create educational online content, produce, publish, and distribute our own collaborative zines. DOMAIN - DOMAIN is a publishing project that emerged from my broader practice as a graphic designer. In addition to launching a new series of projects on queer nightlife, I work with public domain texts. I design every element of these pocketbooks myself—typefaces, layouts, covers, etc.—and produce each book one at a time by hand. I also design the books as mailable objects, so the final cover designs are often the result of a collaboration with USPS. The internal operations of the press—production, buyers, events—are "inside out" and recorded publicly on the website. We're also excited to launch the first title in our Private Domain imprint! The Drag Explosion collects photographs drawn from Linda Simpson's archive of late '80s and early '90s New York drag. When Simpson—a queen, comic, amateur photographer, and editor of the irreverent zine My Comrade—found a drag time capsule in her shoebox treasure trove of photos, she launched a slideshow performance to exhibit them in 2012. This volume presents Simpson’s photographs alongside her reflections on finding community, the gender-expansiveness of drag, gay revolution, drag legacies, the power of flippancy, and the “drag queen magic” that brings her portraits their homemade glamour.

Hamilton Six Zines - Pity for Thyself, the primary Hamilton Six zine series, is a collection of email missives beginning in 2007 when “hamiltonsix”, who had just completed a creative writing MFA and quit his job in San Francisco, rather abruptly decides to take a one month sublease in NYC and put everything in storage and drive across the country from Oakland. Issues will chronicle romantic failures; alienation as a biracial individual in the queer community; the struggles of functioning creatively in an urban environment, the mediocrity of office life; attempts to impregnate a lesbian friend; a compulsion towards cultural consumption; and a heightened sense of existential malaise, longing, and despair. Juxtaposed with those pontifications to friends are the explicitly crude and desperate emails chronicling frenetic acting out through sex addiction. Adult Content. Additionally, there are individual sad and slutty zines: “Persona Non Grata” and “Mary Gaitskill”, transcribing two different and somewhat wistful conversations from the Scruff app, and “Cockblock List 2016” which is a catalog of every cultural event (concert, film, museum exhibit, reading, etc.) attended in a single calendar year which prohibited a single queer bachelor from getting laid).
