NEW YORK QUEER ZINE FAIR at LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

We are excited to announce that New York Queer Zine Fair, in conjunction with the LGBTQ Studies and Zine Librarian at the Library of Congress, are putting together a collection of zines to be donated to the Library of Congress.  The selected zines will be archived as an official part of our nation’s library. Given all the political and social strife of the moment, we feel this is an exciting opportunity to have queer voices become a part of our official national record.  Our website, NYQZF.com will ultimately host an on-line exhibition of the collection.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE in NYQZF@LoC:
Because we want this collection to represent a wide array of queer zinesters, we would like to limit submissions to 1 or 2 zines per zinester so that more people have a chance to contribute. Some exceptions will be made for zines that are part of a series.

NOTE: At this time Library of Congress will not be digitizing the collection; it will only be held in print form, though there are plans to digitize in the future. We will have a zine donation form for any contributor to fill out to make it easier for the librarians to process the work. On that form, you may stipulate if you do not want your work digitized at all or you can also stipulate if you don't want it digitized for x number of years. If you have any concerns or questions about this collection - Kel, your friendly neighborhood librarian, can help answer those.

NYQZF & LoC ISSN Workshop

We are hosting a zoom workshop on Thursday, April 29 at 6PM with representatives from the Library of Congress (LoC) and the ISSN office.

Join Library of Congress librarians and the New York Queer Zine Fair for this special zine workshop.

This workshop will detail the history of the Library of Congress Zine Collection, how to donate your zine to the Library, and the benefits of ISSN assignment for your zines.

The International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is an identifier that is applied to journals, magazines, zines, blogs, newsletters, and other continuing resources. If you are creating a zine with multiple issues then your zine may qualify for an ISSN! Join us to discuss whether an ISSN might provide advantages for your zine.

Q+A to follow the presentation.
